The works involved refurbishment of the Listed farmhouse, with a small extension to one end. Much more dramatic was the reconstruction needed for the timber framed barn with other out-buildings. The barn was quite dilapidated with one oak frame completely missing and others partially absent. An interesting feature is the hump in the roof. This is the result of a historic rebuild of part of the barn in the ‘Sussex’ style rather than the original ‘Kentish’ form. The conversion was designed to retain the sense of space of an agricultural barn with the main room reaching right up to the roof ridge.
